To the Editor:

The picture “The Cows Come Home” on page 1 above the fold of the June 20 edition of the Waterbury Record is stunning.

Congratulations to Maureen Davis for taking such a beautiful photo of her cows coming home from the hills for milking.

I pass the Davis farm several times a week on the way to town. Whether it’s watching her cows ambling off to the beautiful green hills where they graze, or observing them waiting in line like polite schoolgirls for the walk across Kneeland Flats, or shuffling home with the “WHOA!” sign extended, it’s my favorite part of a trip to almost anywhere.

Sometimes when I drive past late at night and see the lights ablaze inside the barn, I know someone is cold and tired in that barn. And for that dedication, I am deeply indebted to the Davis family.

I would love to buy a print of that photo. Although I have many photos of our spectacular Waterbury sunsets, none feature the reflections and shading of the evening sky on the backs of those sweet cows.
