To the Editor:
September is Suicide Awareness and Service Dog Appreciation month, a time to recognize and honor all who have made and protected our country to make it what it is today.
You can save a life! Be a good listener and know the warning signs; you may be their only link to getting help. Call the Veterans Crisis Line toll-free, 1-800-273-8255. They are there for veterans, their families, and even their friends.
Let’s all say a huge thank you to the four-legged furry friends who are out there supporting our veterans. Service dogs play a huge part in the lives of many men and women who have served in the military, giving security, companionship and love. Thank you for helping our heroes live a more normal life after all their sacrifices.
Sept. 11 was Patriot Day. At 8:46 a.m., a moment of silence was observed in memory of all who died in the attacks on the Pentagon (and the World Trade Center) and to honor all who helped out and survived that heartbreaking day.
Please take a moment to hug your family and friends and to remember all who were affected by this tragedy.
Sept. 17 is National Constitution/Citizenship Day. Teachers honor the adoption of the U.S. Constitution by including a lesson on the history of the Constitution. Take a moment to think about all your freedoms and recognize everyone who has become citizens over the centuries.
“You are not forgotten!” Prisoner of War/Missing in Action military and their families are honored and recognized on the third Friday in September. We renew our vows to find and return their remains to their families so they can rest in peace. Observe a moment of silence in their honor or attend a ceremony of the “Missing Man” to learn how military organizations honor them.
