The Dix family

Hazel Dix, 4, and Sierra Dix, 6, with their dad, Dan. Sierra and Hazel finished first and second in the Kids Fun Run and Dan won the 4-mile Sky Race at the Harwood Fun Run July 1.

Two dozen runners and walkers toed the line July 1 for the Harwood Fun Run of the season.

Sisters Sierra (age 6) and Hazel (4) Dix were the trail blazers, running the Kids’ Fun Run Course with shouts of encouragement from a large field of onlookers and fellow competitors. Sierra (1:44) “edged” little sister Hazel (2:30).

Dad Dan Dix won the 4-mile Sky Run in record time (31:36); Winter Haberle, age 16, was second in 39:10. Laura Martinez, 15, of Duxbury was the first female finisher in the Sky Run at 43:50.

Zennor DiMario, 15, of Fayston won his second straight 1.7-mile Fun Run in 11:46, just ahead of Adam Porterfield, 14, of Waterbury. Father/son duo of Quinn Pomerantz, 12, and Peter Pomerantz of Fayston posted impressive times of 13:39 and 13:40, respectively. They finished just ahead of the runner-up from last week, Marc DiMario (13:53).

Britta Zetterstrom (14:51) was the first female finisher, followed by Caelyn McDonough (15:35), who was a bit fatigued after a 10-mile run that morning.

Harwood Fun Runs take place every Monday at 6 p.m. on the Harwood Union High School cross-country trails. There is a small entry fee. Money raised will help the high school cross-country team travel to the Maine Festival of Champions in Belfast in October.
