Triple Crown winner

Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center celebrates his championship in the Triple Crown at Thunder Road, the stock-car track in Barre.

In the final leg of the Myers Container Triple Crown Series on Thursday, Aug. 8, a pair of drivers in the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers emerged with victories. Mike Billado of Grand Isle won the 75-lap final race of the Triple Crown, while Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center claimed the overall title for the three-race special event.

Billado outlasted rookie Stephen Martin to win the third leg of the triple crown, and Woodard finished third. Woodard had finished first and second in the first two legs of the Triple Crown event.

Along with Billado, winners on Cody Chevrolet-Cadillac Night included Tyler Cahoon of Danville, who won the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models’ 50-lap feature, and Justin Blakely of Barre, who won the 25-lap feature for the Allen Lumber Street Stocks.

Drivers will be back on the track this Thursday, Aug. 15, for Vermont Tire and Service Night. The second-to-last Thursday night races of the season will include a full slate of racing for all four divisions.

Here’s a look at the top five drivers in each of the races on Aug. 8, plus how some local drivers fared. Drivers are listed by finish, name, number and hometown. For full results:
