Micheline Lemay has been appointed school director of the Mountain River School, a private, nonprofit, independent school in Stowe.
“Micheline brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Mountain River School,” says Rebecca LaScolea, co-founder of Mountain River School. “We are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
“The Mountain River School is the ideal blend of two of my greatest passions: working with children and spending time outdoors,” Lemay said. “It’s my belief that learning should happen both in and out of the classroom.”
Lemay holds a master’s degree in education and K-6 licensure from Johnson State College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, where she majored in kinesiology and outdoor education.
Since moving to Stowe in 2001, Lemay has immersed herself in teaching and coaching. In addition to her role at the Mountain River School, Lemay is the alpine junior director at the Mount Mansfield Ski Club. In 2010, Lemay and fellow ski coaches founded Rugged Adventures, an adventure-based educational summer camp.
Previously, during her seven-year tenure at the Mount Mansfield Winter Academy, Lemay was the academic coordinator and taught health, physical education, science, life skills and psychology. She did her student teaching at a Stowe Elementary School multi-age classroom.
Lemay has lived in Stowe for 14 years; she and her husband, Igor, have a daughter and a son.
The 2015-16 student body hails from Johnson, Morristown, Stowe and Waterbury. The Mountain River School currently offers open enrollment and welcomes inquiries and applicants for the 2016-17 school year’s kindergarten through sixth grade classes.
