Workers attach legs to a lauter tank while it is suspended by a crane that dropped it through the roof of the new Trapp Lager Brewery on Luce Hill Road on Monday. At front right is project manager Craig Street, back right is Trapp's head brewer JP Williams.

Von Trapp Brewing will hold public tours of its new 36,000-square-foot brewery on the next two Saturdays, April 9 and 16.

The hourlong tour starts at 4:30 p.m.; it’s only for adults and costs $15. The brewery is part of the Trapp Family Lodge property at 700 Trapp Hill Road.

All proceeds from the tours will be donated to the Tim Ziegler Heart Transplant Fund and the IAN Avalanche Fund.

Ziegler, a popular Stowe High School teacher and coach, needs a heart transplant, and the community has been raising money to help his family cover medical costs and related expenses.

The IAN Fund honors Ian Lamphere, who died in an avalanche in 2013. His family established the fund to help other families that lose a loved one in an avalanche.

“I met Tim Ziegler through the permitting process for our new brewery,” said Sam von Trapp, who heads the family business. “He lives nearby, and was concerned that it would have an impact on his family and home. By the end of the meeting, he realized that it wouldn’t have a negative impact, and we left the meeting slapping each other on the back and laughing. You’ve got to love small towns. When I learned about Tim’s situation through Mark Fucile’s fundraiser at The Bistro a few weeks ago, we decided that a tour of the brewery to help our neighbor made perfect sense.”

As for the IAN Fund, “Ian Lamphere had one of those magnetic personalities that brought people together, and his loss has had a huge impact on his friends and family,” von Trapp said. “The IAN Fund has already made a huge difference for the families left behind by other avalanche victims, and we’re honored to continue to support their efforts.”

After each tour, a voucher will be given for a complimentary lager beer flight at the Trapps DeliBakery.

Reservations are required for the tour; call 802-253-5791 or stop in at the Trapp Family Lodge gift shop in the main lodge.
