Mr. Waterbury: Peter Miller

Waterbury staple Peter Miller outshot the rest of the pack, nailing down this year’s Mr. Waterbury title.

Miller’s ability to distill the complexity of Green Mountain life into a series of photographs lends itself to a certain maudlin romance. More comfortable behind the lens than in front of it, Miller’s artful black-and-white views of Vermont as seen in coffee-table book “A Lifetime of Vermont People” have captivated audiences worldwide, showcasing images of Vermont both old and new: Burlington crowds jar against a farmer gently leading his cows in for milking.

These days, you can find Miller keeping out of the public eye as much as possible while still managing to capture images of the state he loves. Miller and his lens speak for Vermont and now the people have spoken for Miller.
