Rich Haab, owner of Sunset Grille & Taproom, puts the finishing shine on his carving “Olympic Fire and Ice,” for which he won first place in the amateur division.

Part of the annual Stowe Winter Carnival is a nationally sanctioned ice carving competition, which puts artists in their element with frozen temperatures and chainsaws, charged with bringing beauty out of what winter hands us.

This year’s theme was StowOlympics.
