Coaches Greg Davis, Hosea Crittenden and members of both boys’ and girls’ Lamoille Union basketball teams were honored at the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star game Saturday and acknowledged with Capital League Awards as well.
Davis coached the girls’ senior all-star game along with assistants Carrie McCuin and Karen Wells. Lamoille Union head coach Hosea Crittenden and assistants Rick Samson and Jake Benoit coached the boys’ north senior all-stars.
Players Malcolm Ernst, Natalie Royer, Marielle Benoit and Elise Small were named to the Division I and II senior all-star team representing the northern half of the state. Royer was awarded a Vermont Basketball Coaches Association scholarship as well.
Lamoille junior Evie Pirie was recognized as a Division I and II Dream Dozen Award recipient for the second time. The award recognizes 12 of the state’s stand-out underclass basketball players.
“Their exceptional performances throughout the season, marked by their scoring prowess, defensive skills and leadership on the court earned them this prestigious opportunity,” Davis said. “The north, led by these talented players, emerged victorious in both the Division I and II boys’ and girls’ games as well as the Division 3 and 4 boys’ and girls’ games, making it a clean north sweep.”
Davis was also named Division II Coach of the Year for demonstrating “exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship.”
Capital League awards
Pirie was made the first team of the all-Capital League, Alana Crittenden made the second-team and Royer was named to the honorable mention team
Davis was named Capital League Coach of the Year.
Teams and coach of the year awards are chosen by coaches within the league, which is composed of 12 teams from across northern Vermont.
