Mountain wind farm is a beautiful sight

Each turbine will generate 1.5 to 3 megawatts of power, totaling up to 63 megawatts. This could power about 20,000 Vermont homes; that’s 6 to 8 percent of Green Mountain Power’s customers. This project would displace 75,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

• Built and operated by a Vermont company.

• Help keep Vermont dollars in Vermont, up to $1 million per year.

• Create many jobs — construction, operations, maintenance, and tours of the facility.

• Built in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible.

I support the construction of a wind farm on Lowell Mountain. I feel that it is important for Vermont to create as much green renewable energy as possible. 

I understand the concern about the environmental impact, but everything has its impact. What has a more devastating impact, the wind farm or Vermont Yankee’s spent radioactive fuel rods lining the banks of the Connecticut River? What about the hundreds of thousands of acres of flooded land around Quebec caused by Hydro Quebec? 

We need to ask ourselves: Are we willing to give a little to gain a lot? I think the sight of a wind farm on our mountains is a beautiful sight. I see it as a cleaner, greener and healthier future for my children and grandchildren.
