‘Hairspray’ at Lost Nation

Taryn Noelle and Rosalie Wasser of Stowe will be on stage tonight, Thursday, April 21, at the opening of the musical “Hairspray” at Lost Nation Theater in City Hall Arts Center, 39 Main St., Montpelier.

Noelle, the choreographer for the production, also plays Velma von Tussle, the scheming producer of “The Corny Collins Show” and overbearing mother of Amber, Corny’s lead dancer.

Wasser plays Shelly, another of Corney’s dancers.

Playing a villain is a change of pace for Noelle, who has had romantic leading roles in many Stowe Theatre Guild musicals, including Lily in “The Secret Garden,” Guenevere in “Camelot,” and Maria in “The Sound of Music.”

Director Kathleen Keenan has assembled a giant cast from across Vermont for the Tony Award-winning musical set in 1962 Baltimore. The show runs through Sunday, May 8. Tickets and information: 229-0492, lostnationtheater.org.

Auditions at Chandler

Auditions for “Mama’s Girls,” a play by Marilynn Barner Anselmi, will be held by appointment at Chandler Music Hall, 71-73 Main St., Randolph.

The show will be directed by Cher Laston and rehearsals start in mid-May. Performances are Sunday, July 24, and Friday, July 29.

The play is a poignant exploration of gender identity, seen through the lives and experiences of twins and their parents. The subject matter is brutally direct and includes suggestions of self-harm.

The mother and father are stage age 30 to 40; the twins age 11. To schedule an audition, contact director Cher Laston at 249-9047 or dramaqueen1957@gmail.com.

Send theatrical news, notes and photographs by Friday at 5 p.m. to community@stowereporter.com or mail to P.O. Box 489, Stowe 05672.
