A look at what’s happening on the local theater circuit.

Paint and sip

Enjoy a night of wine and painting at a special fundraiser sponsored by The Drawing Board, “Paint and Sip with Arthur Zorn,” on Saturday, May 14, at 8 p.m. at Lost Nation Theater in City Hall Arts Center, 39 Main St., Montpelier.

Uncork your creativity and stretch your visual artistic muscles in a relaxed atmosphere, sipping wine and creating a canvas in the abstract expressionist style of groundbreaking artist Mark Rothko.

Rothko is the subject of John Logan’s “Red,” the 2010 Tony winner for Best Play, and Lost Nation Theater’s next production June 2-19. Brushes, paints and canvas will be provided. No experience is necessary but participants must be 21 or older. Admission is $25. Information: 229-0492, lostnationtheater.org.

‘Godspell’

Very Merry Theatre’s teen troupe will perform “Godspell” on Saturday, May 21, at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, at 2 and 6 p.m. at Mann Hall on the University of Vermont’s Trinity Campus in Burlington.

“Godspell” is a whimsical, upbeat story about a small group of people who help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranges in style from pop to vaudeville.

Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life. The shows are free; donations are welcome. For a complete season schedule, visit verymerrytheatre.org.

Shakespeare

Here is a rare chance to see a production of Shakespeare’s play “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” produced by Quest Shakespearean Theater, on Thursday and

Friday, May 26 and 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, May 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Living Hope Church, 1037 S. Brownell Road in Williston. The nonprofit troupe is “dedicated to entertaining families around Vermont with classic Shakespeare productions.” The play was one of Shakespeare’s earliest, and it was possibly seen by Queen Elizabeth the First. Admission is by donation at the door to Care Net Pregnancy Center. Information: visitquesttheater.weebly.com.

Send your theatrical news, notes and photographs by Friday at 5 p.m. to community@stowereporter.com or mail to P.O. Box 489, Stowe, VT 05672.
