Last splash: Swimming holes offer free, sometimes frigid, fun in sun

Summertime in Vermont may be waning, but there are still opportunities to hit up some of the dozens of swimming holes the state has to offer. Forget about chlorinated concrete rectangles ringed by deck chairs and signs with dozens of rules telling you not to do this or that. Heck, in some swimming holes, you can even go ahead and forget your clothes. Here’s a sampling of some of the area’s best falls and pools.
