Bruce Miller of Cambridge died on Friday, April 21, 2024, after a short illness.
Bruce was a true Vermont farmer who loved the land, people and animals of Vermont. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1964 and purchased his father’s dairy farm on Route 109. The Miller’s Family Farm won many farming awards over the years, including Dairy of Distinction.
After he sold the farm and animals, he started driving school buses for the towns of Fletcher, Cambridge and Waterville until he retired in 2022. He loved traveling the roads and spending time with the students on his bus. He was always making jokes and teased the children any chance he could get.
Bruce married Laura Coburn Miller in July 1987. For their honeymoon, Bruce and Laura started exploring many places of interest in the U.S. Their love of adventures continued until February 2024 when he took his last trip with his family to Florida. Bruce and Laura traveled to all 50 states and many provinces of Canada. The culture, farming techniques, history and geography intrigued them on these adventures and after completing one trip, they talked about what area to next explore.
They traveled with their children in 2000 when the Millers sold their dairy herd and traveled across the country once again. They rented a motor home and traveled almost 7,000 miles in five weeks. They visited nine national parks, fished in every state and visited 16 states.
This trip was the inspiration they needed to start an agritourism business on their farm. For the next four years they greeted visitors to teach them about agriculture and farming in Vermont. In 2005 they sold the farm and built a home on Indian Hill, which was Bruce’s home until death.
Over the years Bruce has had his ups and downs with his family. They were his most proud moments and largest disappointments in his life. He was happy to prevail in the most recent case when family members tried to rewrite the property lines of property they purchased from him. He wanted to make sure these words were in his obituary, “I won!”
He is survived by his wife Laura; children, including Todd, Brandon, Evan and Megan, as well as others that were not a part of his life; grandchildren, including Cheyanne, Jesse, Silas, Levi, Hazel, Braylin, Ezra, Juliet and Jase; and his four-legged family, Indi and Elsa.
No services will be held per Bruce’s wishes. The family would like to thank Nichole, Rachel and Johanna from Lamoille Home Health and Hospice for the amazing care and compassion shown to Bruce and his family.
