Erik Remmers of Montgomery Center will become the new director of the Green Mountain Career and Technology Center in Hyde Park on July 1.
Remmers has been principal of Enosburg Falls High School for the past six years, and before that was a middle school principal and teacher there.
He signed a two-year contract with the Lamoille North school district and will be paid $98,500 next year.
Nate Demar, director of Cold Hollow Career Center, which is affiliated with Enosburg Falls High, says Remmers is among the best school leaders and believes he is a perfect match for Green Mountain Tech, which is affiliated with Lamoille Union High School and is part of the Lamoille North Supervisory Union.
Remmers succeeds Sherry Lussier, who is retiring. Lussier was honored by the Vermont Principals’ Association this year as the Vermont Career Center Director of the Year.
Remmers did not take a traditional route after high school. He was a recreational counselor, a children’s therapeutic case manager, and a behavior interventionist before launching his career in education. He is a strong supporter of career and technical education.
“We are excited to welcome Erik to our community of students and families and are confident that he will bring strong leadership and innovation to the work of the district,” said Catherine Gallagher, the Lamoille North school superintendent.
Lamoille North students from Belvidere, Cambridge, Eden, Hyde Park, Johnson and Waterville can attend Green Mountain Tech. In all, the career center receives students from five high schools serving 16 towns in the Lamoille North, Lamoille South and Orleans Southwest supervisory unions.
