An opening reception for two exhibitions at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe will be held Friday, Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Unbroken Current” is a group show including work by Mildred Beltre, Sanford Biggers, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Rashid Johnson, Harlan Mack, and Carrie Mae Weems. The artists dive deeply into their respective narratives, investigating cultural and personal identity, social justice, and history through the lens of photography, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

Studio of Archeo-virtual Spritings,” the first solo exhibition in North America of internationally established Greek artist Vasilis Zografos, shows the painting medium’s enduring significance in today’s digital image culture by examining the tension between memorialization and design, and commemoration and utility. It draws on an archaeological tradition rather than a Modernist legacy to update the medium’s bearing and contemporary relevance, from the local perspective of artistic development in Greece.

Beltre and Mack will be at the reception, and Zografos will give an artist talk. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

The exhibits will be on display through Nov. 9. helenday.com.
