A look at what’s happening on the local theater circuit.

Stowe Theatre Guild awards scholarships

Tommy Bergeron and Parker Nolan have been selected by Stowe Theatre Guild’s Community Affairs Committee as the organization’s 2018 scholarship recipients. Each actor will receive a $500 scholarship.

Nolan was in the cast of “Gypsy,” and Bergeron will appear in “Heathers the Musical,” Wednesday to Saturday, July 18 to Aug. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Theater. Each actor will receive a $500 scholarship.

Bergeron is a 2018 graduate of Essex High School. He played Lucas, Wednesday Addams’ fiancé, in the 2017 production of “The Addams Family.” This year he will play J.D. in “Heathers the Musical,” opening on Wednesday, July 18.

Bergeron has been accepted by The Hartt School, where he will pursue a BFA in musical theater performance. His scholarship will be presented at the Saturday, July 21, show.

Stowe Theatre Guild board president Glenn Brown directed Bergeron in “The Addams Family” and is music director for “Heathers.”

Brown said, “Tommy is an extremely talented individual for someone of only 18 years of age. His essay about how his career path changed after one production with STG was very heartfelt and inspiring. His willingness to go above and beyond shows through his work ethic and performance ability. I see great thing to come from this young man in the performing arts. He will represent Vermont and STG well at Hartt.”

Nolan attended Spaulding High School in Barre. He worked backstage in Stowe’s 2016 production of “Almost, Maine” and is onstage this year in the featured role of Tulsa in the musical “Gypsy.” He will be a sophomore at Eastern Michigan University, majoring in theater arts. His scholarship will be presented at the June 30 production of “Gypsy.”

Scott Weigand, a fellow cast member in “Gypsy,” and STG vice president, says, “Parker is an extremely talented performer who also displays the willingness to do whatever is needed to make the show better. He helps younger cast members with make up, he organizes the props, helps with set changes, and encourages cast members. He exemplifies the collaborative effort indicative of successful theatre professionals and should have a bright future.”

Funds from concessions sold at STG shows support the scholarship program.
