Saturday, May 4, is Green Up Day. The green bags used to pick up roadside and park-riddled trash will be available at the town offices to pick up before Saturday, or they will be available on the village green and at the skate park on Green Up Day. There will be an organized crew at the Johnson Skate Park again this year to focus attention on cleaning up that area. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

It’s May and that means clean-up and Green Up on Saturday, May 4. That is one of two Hazwaste Collection days for Lamoille Regional Solid Waste Management District. As has been the case for the last few years, those collections will be held at Lamoille Union High School, on May 4, from 9 a.m.-noon. Nothing can be larger than a five-gallon bucket. Containers are not returned. This is the place to drop off aerosols, automotive products including waste oils and filters, fertilizers, gasoline and kerosene, paint (not more than 10 gallons per household) and paint thinners, pesticides and in…

We had our first big thunderstorm Sunday morning. The lightning seemed to have hit close, and the thunder was very loud. It poured rain, too. On my way home from Bible study I noticed several frogs hopping across the road. Spring is here.

Road work has begun on Route 15 between Jeffersonville and Johnson. Expect delays if you travel that way. Even going from Waterville on the Hogback Road to Morrisville, you’ll run into some delays. I had to wait for about 10 minutes on Wednesday last week when I went over to my daughter’s house in Johnson. Just remember when you are delayed that when the road is all done it will be so much better.

My hands got their annual-inaugural dirt digging. It happened while aimlessly and, albeit, blissfully walking from plant to plant, plot to plot. At first the stroll was an observational one, surveying casually the end-of-April happenings. I checked on the fruit trees, counted my elderberries and blueberries and inspected the flower beds.

This week we got some sun and a lot of April showers. The river behind our house got quite high but it didn’t come onto my lawn. It did go over its banks and onto some fields along Route 109 toward Jeffersonville.

The Lamoille Union dance crews will be hosting a kids’ dance clinic on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m.-noon. There’s a $20 fee to attend, and children ages 6-13 are invited to attend. Sliding fees and sibling discounts are available. The Lancer Dancers and Lamoille Union dance groups do not want finances to prevent a person from dancing. This event is a fundraiser to help the teams purchase dance shoes and costumes for their spring recital. At the clinic, they will work on technique, skill building and learning a dance routine that they will perform for families at 11:45 p.m. Please we…

The Belvidere Community Club will have a meeting on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the town clerk’s office. If you would like to book the field, please call Cathy Mander-Adams at the town clerk’s office.

The Johnson Community Oven Committee made a public call for firewood; the reserves were beginning to dwindle, and the warm weather reminded the group that community bakes were on the season’s horizon.

What a month, and we’re not even halfway through. The eclipse and tax day are still in the future as I write, but that big dump of winter certainly took the spring out of my step. However, the sun and some seasonably warm temperatures helped the snow melt, and thoughts of spring certainly fill the news.

We got another foot of snow last week. I had to look at the calendar twice to make sure we were in April. By Sunday, the snow was almost gone. When the snow came off our porch roof it broke my flagpole. This is the second time it has broken and this time I’m going to have to buy a new one.

We're always interested in hearing about news in our community. Let us know what's going on!
