Lamoille County Field Days returns this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 26 to 28.
Lamoille County’s annual fair, which typically draws in excess of 10,000 people, kicks off Friday morning when the gates open at 8:30 a.m.; the fair is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Here’s a rundown of some of the major events:.
Friday
The ox pull in the covered pulling arena starts at 10 a.m. A mini-horse pull will take place at the same time in the 4-H pole barn, with lawn tractor pulls at the pulling track from noon until 4 p.m. The final pulling event of the day, the ATV pull, will be held at the same place from 5 to 9 p.m.
The annual arm wrestling competition runs from 5 to 11:30 p.m. on the nearby WLVB stage.
Saturday
The horse pull begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in the covered arena; the annual Lumberjack Roundup starts at the same time in the Dennis Ferland Memorial Arena, while the Xtreme Trail Challenge also kicks off then in the white arena.
Donna Bousquet offers face painting from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m., and the 4-H Dairy Show begins at 10:30 in the pole barn. The street stock truck pulls begin at 2 p.m. on the pulling track.
Gymkhana begins at 5 in the white arena.
The famed Northern Vermont Lady’s Underhand Skillet Competition, which features six divisions of competition, starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Dennis Ferland Memorial Arena.
Sunday
Two of the final pulling events of the weekend take place Sunday. The pony pull is in the covered pulling arena, and the tractor pull is on the pulling track; both start at 10 a.m. An open horse show starts at the same time in the white arena, and the Northern Vermont Men’s Underhand Skillet Toss starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Dennis Ferland Memorial Arena.
The annual talent show will be held at Harlow Hall at 11:30, just after last year’s winners show off their skills one last time.
The last major event of the fair, the Vermont State Pedal Pull Championships, begin at 1 p.m. at the Dennis Ferland Memorial Arena.
Music
The fair’s musical selection kicks off Friday, when the Vibrations play at the gazebo from 5 to 8 p.m.; DJ Bart Lamb will spin tunes and run karaoke from 8-10:30 p.m. that same night in Harlow Hall.
On Saturday the music gets rolling with Woodchuck’s Revenge playing at the gazebo from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Birdshot LaFunk takes over the gazebo from 4 to 7 p.m. that day, and High Def closes out Saturday with a performance at Harlow Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
On Sunday the group O’hAnleigh performs at the gazebo from 2-5 p.m.
Daily events
Several acts, performers and events happen daily at Field Days. Chris Clark’s Bicycle Stunt show will be held three times on both Friday and Sunday and four times on Saturday.
Pirate Man Dan will perform at Harlow Hall and wander the grounds throughout the weekend. The Horsing Around show will be held twice Friday and Sunday and three times on Saturday, and No Strings Marionettes will perform once on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Bingo will be played daily in Harlow Hall, which will also be the site of the daily pie-eating contest; the baby-bottle milk drinking contest will be held in the nearby Discovery Tent.
Jason Tardy will perform his high-energy juggling routine several times over the weekend, Eric Hanson from the Vermont Loon Conservation Project will present in the Discovery Tent on Friday and Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. and there will be daily presentations and demonstrations in the agricultural building.
