President Trump has approved Vermont’s request for federal disaster aid to help pay for damage from a pair of storms in April.

On Monday, Gov. Phil Scott announced Trump had given the go-ahead for aid to communities across six of the state’s 14 counties, including Duxbury.

“I want to thank our federal partners for moving expeditiously to approve this disaster declaration,” Scott said. “The areas of greatest impact included many small towns with limited transportation budgets. This will help them rebuild roads and other infrastructure without experiencing a long-term financial strain on their town budget.”

Scott requested the disaster declaration May 30.

A pair of storms — April 15-16 and April 20-21 — damaged roads, bridges and culverts across Bennington, Essex, Orange, Rutland, Washington and Windsor counties.

In Duxbury, the heavy rain combined with snow melt and sent Ridley Brook gushing beyond its banks, causing several washouts on Camels Hump Road.

In addition, the Vermont Office of Emergency Management surveyed damage to Scrabble Hill, Richardson and Marshall roads.

The declaration provides a 75 percent federal reimbursement to communities for storm response and recovery, including repairs to public roads, bridges and utilities.
